JWH Author's Voice: Dream a little dream of ...
Moso photographer - Kazuma Ogaeri refers to himself by such a title.
His new photo collection "Railway and Girl" was published by Bunkasha in January 2008, and his exhibition, bearing the same title, was also held in Tokyo in early February.
But what is "moso"? It's a Japanese noun and originally a psychiatric term.
Its literary meaning is "delusion" or "obsession," but nowadays, we tend to use this word instead of "fantasy."
So what does a moso photographer do? He converts his fanciful imagination into reality and portrays it.
Brimming with curiosity, we went to the exhibition to meet this unique photographer...

Kazuma Ogaeri
[Photography]
While Araki is renowned around the world for his bold and vivid depictions of everyday eros, Kazuma Ogaeri's works, in contrast, reveal such sensuality through exquisite angles with more subtlety. Having captured images inspiring boyhood flights of fancies for sixteen years, Ogaeri takes evocative pictures that clearly distinguish themselves from works of pretty, yet clinical works of art, and from ordinary slice-of-life shots as well.

JAPANESE COOKING - Enjoy Japanese Food Outside Japan |
Curry Stew with Corn and Chicken
Originating in India, curry has become a very popular spice in Japan, where people enjoy using a milder version in a variety of dishes, such as stews, soups, sauces, noodles, pilafs, salads and stir-fries.
Curry powder is actually a blend of up to 20 different spices, herbs and seeds, usually including cardamom, chilies, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, fennel seed, ginger, nutmeg, red pepper, black pepper, saffron, tamarind, and turmeric. The mixture contains many powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that have been shown to support health of the cardiovascular system as well as the colon and, most recently, the brain.
Cream-style corn makes this recipe unique, adding a touch of sweetness to this mildly spicy stew and contributing to its creamy texture. Quick and simple to make, this healthful stew gives you lots of antioxidants through the corn, potato, carrot, onion and curry powder. On a chilly evening, a bowl of this hearty stew will satisfy your craving for comfort food! Serve with a loaf of warm, crusty bread.

MOJI - KANJI PICT•O•GRAPHIX |
|
How do you study the written Japanese characters known as kanji? You stare at each kanji and make up a story in your head that you can mentally "attach" to the kanji to help you recall its meaning when you meet it again in the future. Some types of kanji have retained their pictographic forms and look very much like the objects they represent.
